In my family, you can get a phone during the Christmas of 7th grade. That rule followed for both of my brothers, but when my parents decided to separate and get divorced, it made sense for me to get my phone early, since the new homes were not going to have the landline phones. I'm in 6th grade, so I got my first phone a year early. My iPhone, that is. :)
Here's how the whole 'iPhone' thing came in the picture all of a sudden. A few years ago, my dad got the iPhone 3G. Of course when he got it, that was the best iPhone they had. Now they have the iPhone 3GS. Anyway, he thought that everyone in the family should get one. I don't really know why, but apparently having one big happy phone family plan, we save money. So the Saturday that my mom was moving out to her house, we left around 6:00 AM to go to the mall. Of course, the mall doesn't open until 10:30 or so. So what do we do driving about until the mall opens? First we go and have breakfast out. I had chocolate chip waffles and sausages with syrup. The rest of the time remaining for the mall to open was covered by the time it took to drive to get there.
The little AT&T island hut station thing didn't open until 11:00 or something, so we shopped elsewhere like The Paper Store and Game Stop.
Once the little AT&T island hut station thingy finally opened, we walked down there and made a little order for 5 iPhones. 2 iPhone 3Gs (parents) and 3 iPhone 3GSs. (kids) Getting a phone is fun, but not during the process of the whole thing. I don't know what takes the people so long, but it's so boring. Thankfully, Claire's was close by, and while the AT&T dude was talking to my dad and he's going like 'Mmm... mmhhmm.. yaa.. ok.. uhhuh.. go on...' I'm like signaling pointing to me then the store then my purse to show that I was shopping there and he nods yes. I run off to the girly world. I was there for such I a long time that my brother eventually came in and was like, 'Hey come pick your phone number.' That's probably the only fun part.
I ended up getting a white 16 gig iPhone, which I was very satisfied with. We had lunch after that at T.G.I. Friday's, and while we where waiting I was so excited to explore the everything on the phone. We where texting back and forth, taking cool pictures, and I'm just like, 'What's this? Huh? Why? What's that??" Because it's my first phone - I don't know what the heck everything is and I can see that my brothers are trying not to roll their eyes. It was clear they where jealous that I was getting my phone a year and 4 months early, plus my first phone was the hottest phone out there.
Turns out I have unlimited texting. Woohoo! I didn't find out until a few months after we got the phones, because all my friends kept asking. I asked my dad and he's like, "umm.. well, I don't know. I will check online later." and then during Thanksgiving when my uncle came he's just like, 'Hey! I heard you got iPhones. Sweet! Unlimited texting, too!" Then later he was like, "woops.. I shouldn't have mentioned the texting part..." LOL!
