The Joy Of Needle Crafts

Knitting, crocheting, and sewing all are something I just love to do. It takes a very long time for me to get going on the project, and for it to be almost done, because I have a very busy schedule. That includes swimming for an hour on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday nights, and a bunch of other sport-related activities, witch leaves me little chunks of time in the week, except for weekends. I usually don't knit on weekends. I write on my website on weekends!! But yeah.. I should split that a little more evenly so you people get more to read..

Right now I just finished a 20-stitch wide scarf for my dad. I'm using red yarn, because red is his favorite color, and the yarn is very fluffy and cozy for extra warmth guaranteed. It used to be like 40 stitches wide, but that didn't work out too well, as you might have imagined. I've made previous projects, witch of only one one of them are actually completed. (Other than my just-finished red scarf) That one is a white wool scarf, about 15 stitches wide. The one that is not finished but is VERY close to being finished is a hat. I'm using those needles that are connected by a cord at the ends so it makes a tube kind of thing- I'm in the decreasing stage, so it's actually a hat. Yarn? Nothing quite fancy, but it is multicolored. It has mixtures of light pink, magenta, brown, and tan.

I'm not working on anything in crochet land right now, mainly because I've got a lot of projects on my hands with knitting. My mom asked for a blue scarf. Sam, my brother, is in the AB high school marching band- so she said she was going to wear that scarf whenever she watches my brother. I haven't even started that one yet!! As soon as I finish the red one for my dad, I should start working on it right away! Thank god it doesn't have a due date. The red one for my dad does- Christmas time. I do have completed crochet projects, though. I made myself a green headband- somehow, I forget how. I've made myself a cute little pink purse to hold my gum in- it's PERFECT size! And I made another cute little pink purse to give as a gift.

Oh how I love to choose yarn! The colorful, pretty yarn. Tons of options, tons of projects await.

You see that whitish scarf up top? You see how on the sides it gets all narrow and all of a sudden its really wide? Yeah.. that was my first knitting project. It's not very long because I ran out of yarn, but I do wear it sometimes... with the large knot facing the inside, of course. That thing is like a large puff ball. I don't think you can see it in the picture, but you can see how I used really thick yarn, right? Imagine that in a knot, and really fluffed up. There's my obnoxious knot.

My dad, Erik J. Heels, is gonna love it his new red scarf. You can see it above. I even tested it! And it is very comfy-umfy. I'm thinking about making a matching hat.. since his brown red sox one seems to be getting a little small for his unusually large head. Keep an eye out for my new hat, coming soon!

Happy Holidays!

It's that time of year again- where snow falls, people are giving, and happy faces everywhere. I love to spend a snow day inviting a friend over and sledding on the driveway and in the backyard. Sometimes, when a fresh batch of snow falls and creates a blanket of snow all over the town, I eat the snow. It's SO good! I know, mum always says that it's dirty, but it's brand new, icey fresh, and delicious! It's like ice water that's much easier to get- no cup required! Just grab a hand full, shove it in your mouth, and let it melt away in the bitter tasty coldness.

Who here is christian? I am! And I absolutely LOVE Christmas. Not just because of me getting cool stuff, but the joy of giving to others too. And of course, decorating the Christmas tree (and picking it out)  and eating all the gingerbread we want. Making cookies, gingerbread joy, snowball fights, and more! That's why winter is my favorite season. And this year, I finally get to put up the star on our Christmas tree!! In previous years, my super-tall brother, Sam, (he's like 6 feet something inches) has put it up. No problem for him. This year we had to get a bit shorter tree so I could actually reach the top. I feel so tiny! So we're picking the tree, and almost every single tree that my brother, Sam, suggested, my dad would say, 'No, I think that's too tall.' Until we finally picked a tree that was about 8 feet tall. I'm only about 5 feet or so, but I can stand on a chair or something.

I love Christmas morning! But we have a rule in our house that we have to get up no earlier than 7:00, and we can't open anything until we wake up mum & dad. So it's like this every year- we get up, dash over to our parents room, and wake them up with this super weird 'song' that we do on special days. It goes like this: 'Wake up it's _____ day, wake up it's _____ day! Wake up, wake up, wake up it's ____ day!' (you fill in the blank with the special day) and we'd repeat the song over and over until they got up. We also do that on mother's day, father's day, sometimes birthdays, and occasionally M.C.A.S. test days. It's such a weird tradition, but I love it! Then, we get downstairs, tare open the presents, and for some strange reason, we always go for the stocking first! Then we go for the stuff that's scattered in the middle of the living room, and the tree last. Poor tree.

Did you know that they made a brand new new years eve ball? It's true! It's twice the size of the one before, and has tons of little crystal triangles on it. It's green and red and will be on display all year long! Watch this year for the new ball to drop down to ring the celebration of 2009!!

If any of you are Jewish, I wish you a happy Hanukkah! :-)

Once again, happy holidays! It's a time of year to be joyful.
Seasons greetings from Sonja Heels. :) Stay warm.

Sonny's Area's One-Year Anniversary!

 That's right! It's Sonny's Area's one-year anniversary!!

I've been blogging since 2004. Believe it! If you haven't read my post, 'I'm 10 Years Old, I'm A Blogger, And Here's Why', this info. is for you. I blogged on a website that only me and my family could view, with this weird techy thing that makes other people not be able to get to the website. After a while of that, and writing descriptions for domain names for my dad on HIS website, I wanted my own. I'd had my 'own' website before, on www.freewebs.com. But that's no fun having free webs take over your URL, and having not a very large selection of themes. This website is where I can blog all I want, say my thoughts about things, letting my imagination explode... but when it really does, well, no one can ever see that. But sometimes I do it in secret. It's not always obvious when it's exploding. Anyway, I finally got my website and didn't have any viewers. I wasn't surprised. Google didn't even know about me yet! But you will not believe it now. This website you are on right now is being viewed by over 50 different countries!! I know, right?

Sonny's Area started December 20th, 2007. I've been blogging ever since!

If you haven't read my post, 'My Face In The Paper' this info is for you. My dad contacted this guy who works at The Beacon (a newspaper), and told him about my blog. I found out about 3 days later that the dude wants to write an article on me and my website! And you know what that means. I'm going to be interviewed! I don't think I've ever been interviewed for this kind of thing before.. but I got interviewed on the 24th. 2 weeks later, I saw my picture in The Beacon!! Lots of people came up to me, telling me that they'd noticed me in the paper. It was like the buzz for the day! In fact, for the whole week until the new issue came out. All the fifth graders seemed to be talking about it. I really hope that more newspapers want to interview me, so more people find out about me and my awesome website. I might become famous..

Heads up! I'm making crafts that I might be selling here on Sonny's Area. I also might be selling other things.. such as Pokemon cards. And be on the look out for new themes- we change about every 2 months- just for a variety.

Like my website? Want to tell your friends? Go for it! Spread the word about www.sonnysarea.com! Tell your family, cousins, friends, teachers, your boss, work friends, far away relitives, people you like, people you don't like- tell everyone! Thanks SO much for your help!

Top 5 Movies Of The Year 2008

Hey, people!! Now that it's the end of the year, and almost a new one, I've decided every year on Sonny's Area, right around this time of year, I'm going to review what I think are the TOP 5 movies of the year. That is okie dokie if it hasn't come out on DVD yet- as long as it's been in theaters for at least a week, and it came out this year, the movie just might be reviewed by me, right here on the web!

Movie #1: From the creators of Shrek and Madagascar, I believe, movie #1 is WALL-E - Now on DVD!

(Rated G) Wall-E is about a little robot (named Wall-E) left on the earth with nothing but trash heaps everywhere. His own little self, was creative enough to form those trash heaps into tall towers of blocks he formed himself. He carries around a blue cooler to store things that aren't trash. He collects these items at the end of the day, storing them in a huge room. While he cleans up the earth, all the humans are in a very large space ship. This is in the future, so more inventions have been made. The humans sit around in hovering chairs, eating things and getting fat. This is one of my favorite parts of the movie! The chairs have virtual screens to keep them occupied. Lots of other robots, very different from Wall-E, are also on the ship. One of them, Eve, is sent to the earth to find anything that is living. Wall-E and Eve have an amazing adventure to try and save the earth. I think this is a very good movie, and if I had to rate it with stars, (1-5) I'd rate it 5. I think it really teaches people to take better care of the earth- that means to recycle, use reusable bags when shopping, and not to litter. For more ideas on how to help the earth, go to my little cute search box and search up 'Help The Earth!' Click on the title name, 'Help The Earth' to see the full article, and all images attached.

Movie #2: Kung Fu Panda- Now on DVD!

(Rated PG) This movie is about a panda- as you might have guessed. He is a very big fan in kung fu, but stinks at it. What the kung fu fighters call the 'dragon warrior' is a very special warrior. It is the panda's dream to become it. In this movie, he finds something out about himself. I think it really inspires kids to really believe in yourself- in kung fu, or anything else. One of my favorite movies of the year.

Movie #3: Get Smart - now on DVD!

(Rated PG13) It may not look interesting just by looking at the cover, but that's okay. Because I felt the same when I went over to a slumber party, and we were going to watch Get Smart. All the other girls seemed to be super excited, so I gave it a shot. And it's really good! Lot's of swears, but I don't really care. Agent #86, I believe, is paired up with agent 99- watch their adventure as you move to the edge of your seat just dying to know what happens. Watch them try to get through red-hot lazers with moves, compete in dancing, and jump out of air planes. Max doesn't feel as confident without his gun- not the best agent, but fun to watch.

Movie #4: City Of Ember- coming soon to DVD!

(Rated PG) To be honest, I have not seen the movie. But I have read the book! So I do know exactly what this is all about. This movie takes place in the future, underground. It was built buy builders, not the citizens. Instructions to get out was locked in a case set to open in 220 years. The case was passed down generation to generation, but one mayor forgot to put the case in its hiding place- and ended up somewhere in a stuffed up closet. When they do find it, it had been chewed up by their little sister. They had to crack the code, and save their dying city. The only light they know of is light from a light bulb- and they know very little of fire. Every now and then, the lights would flicker- this worried the citizens of Ember deeply. A thought they preferred not to think of when the lights went out: Will the lights ever come back on again? Will the be out forever? I recommend to read the book BEFORE you watch the movie- and don't miss the next book- The People Of Sparks. Read about the prequel, too: The Prophet Of Yonwood. And don't forget The Diamond Of Darkhold- the fourth book of ember, after The People Of Sparks.

Movie #5: Kit Kittredge: An American Girl

(Rated PG) This fascinating movie is about a 10 or so year old girl named Kit Kittredge. Kit and her best bud, Ruthie, go and find out who took all the money in Kit's family's safe. While her dad is searching for a job, the great depression hits. I would recommend this for girls 9-11.

Other excellent movies:
  • Twilight (PG-13)
  • Madagascar 2
  • Horton Hears A Who!
  • Mama Mia!
  • Bolt
  • Marley And Me

Coming soon, January 16th, Hotel For Dogs

The Ultimate Cat Lover

New to the website? Something you should know about me is that I love cats!! Oh, and by the way, as I increase my love for cats more and more through out the years, I will be adding things to this post to show it- just a lil' heads up!

I read about cats. The Warriors series! By Erin Hunter. To the wild cats, a pet cat would be a kittypet. That's what they call them- along with us humans named the Twolegs. The Warriors are about 4 clans of cats, named Riverclan, Thunderclan, Shadowclan, and Windclan. (To find out your warrior name, click here. To find out what clan you're in, click here.) Each clan has a leader, queens (she-cats expecting kits), a deputy, a medicine cat,  warriors (cats who are old enough to hunt for prey and attack well), apprentices who train to be warriors, and a few elders. Each clan also has their own hunting grounds. If other clan cats are in a clans territory, they battle. Sometimes a cat even gets killed.. but that isn't so often. There's also Starclan, but it's not like the other clans. When cats die, the rise up to the sky at night and become a star, with all the other stars. Sometimes when times are tough for a clan, Starclan would send them a shooting star message. I recommend these books for children 10 and up who enjoy the outdoors. The Warriors has many series, and here is what the first book of every series looks like:

The first series:

(Into The Wild)

The new prophecy:

(Midnight)

The power of three:

(The Sight)

And in Manga..

(The Lost Warrior)

I hope you like the series!!

I dress as cats. In fourth grade, my mom made me a black and white cat costume. We took this super fuzzy white fabric, cut it into an oval kind of shape, and hot-glued it to the front of a black shirt I was about to outgrow. For the face- we didn't make the face. We bought the face. It wasn't like a mask, though. I dislike masks. Why? Because they can get very annoying after a while, sometimes the string is to loose, your breath smells like plasticy fog after a while, and the people you look at don't see the real you. It was a kitty head band with ears on it, attached to this stretchy material that lead down to a bow tie that went under my chin, of course. I was a tuxedo kitty! Hehee! We used a bit of face paint to actually cover the face, and I have to say. It was a bit uncomfortable.. whatever. The tail we didn't make either. We bought a black tail that had that same stretchy material that went all around the waist so it would stay. For the legs, I just put on some black pants. And the shoes! This was my favorite part. We put a sock over the sneaker, then hot-glued some more fuzzy white fabric to the sock- I has fuzzy feetz!

I carve cats. This year, (2008) I carved my pumpkin to be in a kitty form. No, not just the simple kitty face. I did the whole body- even the whiskers! And that my friend, is very hard to do. Here's what it looked like:

Yeah.. the tail didn't have the pumpkin guts to really hold it self up, so I stuck a toothpick in there to support it- but what I really like is that the cat has this evil look in her eyes, like she's going to jump on you and attack you. So I'm browsing iPhoto, and I'm looking for the cat pumpkin picture to upload on here- believe it or not- I did a simple cat face last year! Honestly, I do NOT remember doing that- but anyway, here's how it turned out:

Yup. There it is. I have to say, the eyes look kind of droopy and sad- but that was last year- this year, prepare for the new and improved Sonja! More wackier, sillyer, gigglyer, and descriptive in her writing! Heehee! I love doing 'commercials' like that. ~Giggle!~

I take the joy of cats with me. With a cute little key chain, of course! I hang it on my backpack. It's the only key chain on my backpack. I plan to get other kitty key chains to hang, so my love for cats shows on every zipper! :-)

I draw cats. I used to make comics of cats called 'Fat Cat Comics' only I never really made them look fat. The comics where based on my two cats, Pudge and Pesky. Pudge is the popular and hot dude of the city, and Pesky is the dumb  brother Pudge visits almost every weekend. I've made about 5 comic books with extreme detailed pictures. Sadly I didn't color them in. I don't think they need to be, though. I still do draw cats today, just not in comic form. I draw them and hang a few on my bulletin board. Some are completely cartoon like, and some are very realistic.

I laugh at cats. They can be so funny and curious- they just want to explore the world and see whats out there. They look into every little nook to see if they've found something new. At www.Icanhascheezburger.com, I love to look at the hundreds of funny cat pictures. Here's just one of my 50 favorites:

That one just cracks me up every time! Hehee! :-) Want to see more of my favorites? Click here. And don't forget to click the 'Next Entries' button on the lower right hand corner of the page to see more favorites.

I have cat lounge pants! They're pink, with cute cats all over it. I love it! They are so cozy and warm..

I hang things on cats tails. With the tail hook from my #1 favorite store.. IKEA! Here's what they look like:

Isn't that funny? I got a couple of those, green and blue (to match my room). I know that they are mainly for dog leashes, but come on. What's the difference between a dog's butt and tail and a cat's butt and tail? I could be either one, really. I think of it as a cat's. I think that is just something every dog or cat owner should have.

I act as cats. Sometimes.. although I am very curious like cats, but I might not always land on my feet when falling as cats do. I mean, I do land on my feet, but then right after that I go tumbling into a somersault. I have a friend, actually the same friend who inviting me to Sebago Lake, Maine. (For more info go to the search box and search: Sebago Lake, Maine) Who loves kitties. Not as much as I do, but he loves kitties. We love to wrestle like kitties do, and explore the woods like kitties do.

I decorate with cats. My mom has these mini hollow kitty statues, and let me have them in my room. There was a black one that was skinny, and sitting tall, and there was a plump white kitty sitting not-so-tall. I  put the black one next to my alarm clock, (more info on my alarm clock, click here to read a funny story that happened with my crazy alarm clock.) And put the other one on my desk.

I'm an online kitty! You know how if you have an account on the computer, and you have a little picture next to your name? My picture is a kitty!

I sleep with cats. Surprisingly enough, I only have 1 stuffed animal that is a cat. I named her Carly, after the awesome T.V. show, iCarly. (More info on that, just scroll down until you see 'iCarly' or just go to the search box and search iCarly.) But that's okay, because every night, my cat Pudge always sleeps with me. He purrs a lot and seems to be very fascinated in my fingers. Poor cats don't have opposable thumbs.

And of course, I have cats myself! Named Pudge and Pesky. A common question about Pesky: Did you name him Pesky because he is pesky? Partly, yes. But mostly after Johny Pesky the Red Sox player. We named Pudge after a Red Sox player named Carlton Fisk- Pudge was his nickname, apparently. We've had Pudge and Pesky for about 3 or 4 years now, and they can be very wacky. One time, during the summer, my dad opened the porch door so the cats could go in and out as they please. But pesky just didn't get that. He would go outside the porch door, and then next thing you know, he's meowing at the front door to come in. Oh! And another time, when we where having the porch rebuilt, Pesky was all confused on why it was just- gone. He was staring at us from about 15 feet below. Then he got on top of a saw horse, and jumped up to the door from there. He may be a little stupid in ways, but he can be very clever! Here's a few pictures of Pesky when we just got him as a kit:

He's almost never like this. (Above) And yet he finds it very comfortable! He sometimes even sleeps that way- just imagine that for a sec. Sleeping on your belly, with your legs spread apart and tail sticking out. (Just imagine you have a tail.) So.. would you want to sleep like that? Yeah. I didn't think so.

It's like Pesky is a chess piece- a very confused one, that's for sure.

And Pudge as a lil' kit:

It's like puss in boots- only cuter!! All he needs is some fancy black velvet boots, a cool sword, and a big black hat and he's ready to go!

Get that thing! Get it! AAAhh!!

Group picture:

Awww.. they love each other. Believe it or not, when they where young, they used to wrestle each other under the table- it was quite amusing. It never got that violent though- basically, they just his at each other and scare each other by leaping on them, and then at the end they're grooming each other.

Just for the fun of it, and because I'm the ultimate cat lover, I'm making a huge collage of cats. It's going to have big letters saying, 'I LOVE CATS' witch are also cut out. I can't put it together, because I still don't have enough pictures of cats. I will someday.
